  1. Thanks John. Does the gearbox come of the engine easily, or do I have to fiddle with clutch fork positioning/bearing rotation or anything? (I recall splitting a Porsche 911 gearbox from engine that left us puzzled for a few hours, we had to rotate the throwout bearing before the fork would release...)
  2. Hello all, while the engine is out, I'm thinking of checking the clutch/ throwout bearing etc. Is this a straightforward job and are there any specifics I need to check? Also: do I need a clutchplate centering tool to re-attach the gearbox? Rgds
  3. Thx for the update. Had almost given up on this. Good thing that my resto is getting along even slower.... ;-) So: still very interested!
  4. Yeah, so I've noticed. Needed to reset the password and activated a wrong account.... But it's about my Esprit S1 anyways I normally use my ElEsprito account...
  5. Hi all, on my S1 (and assuming on all of them), there is an instrument behind the RH seat, assambled in the bulkhead. It's a Smith's and has a oil feed pipe to it, leading to a pipe into the engine. It seems like one needs to operate it by pulling a central 'puller' and I assume it sucks oil from the engine through the pipe and towards the instrument. What is this thing for? Checking oil level/quality? How? (can't test it as the engine is out, but I'm pretty curious) Thanks
  6. Just in case anyone is reading this: I'm still looking for the glass!!
  7. Great, but it seems I can't see a link or an attachment?
  8. Thanks Paul, been chasing that eBay item, but unfortunately I couldn't arrange the logistics in time. @Lyn: thanks for your suggestion, what is 'on S1S2'? Is that a site? Rgds Dennis
  9. Thanks guys. I've indeed contacted Lotus Bits but no results yet.
  10. Hello all, I'm SO hoping you can help me out. While fiddling with the window frame, I broke the L/H drop glass of my Esprit S1. Can anyone help me to get a clear drop glass L/H?? Or a supplier of such? Many thanks in advance! Dennis

  12. I think you're right Bob, in saying that forcing it is probably not the correct procedure. I'm curious how others do this....
  13. Hi Bob, will do, thx. You took the pulley off to put the belt on? I didn't. I was wondering if I was doing things a little crude by 'forcing' the belt over the puley by turning it...
  14. Hi all, after much hassle I found a waterpump belt. I find it a bit sloppy though. As I have no reference, can you tell from the pics if this is tight enough? http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae289/Elflamo/Afb0280.jpg http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae289/Elflamo/Afb0279.jpg
  15. Well then, I guess I posted a difficult question. I ended up ordering the belt from my local Lotus shop. It's 63cm. I'm surprised that it's not a tight fit. I can move the middle of the belt by about 15mm up/downwards. Is this normal? It doesn't seem to slip though (when turning by hand).
  16. Yeah, I ended up asking my dad to take one back from the States for me. So pretty soon I'll be able to verify the TuneIt! setting!
  17. Hi, I measured the required length by cutting to length an old (longer) belt: 638 mm outer length. Can anyone confirm pls?
  18. Hi all, I bought a new waterpump (only) v-belt but it's too short. Does anyone know the length of the correct v-belt? MTIA! Dennis
  19. So, I've used TuneIt! and one of my SingStar mics today and tried to set the tension of the belt. What I found is that the mic registers pretty OK. However, taking the measurement changes the actual belt tension. So after hitting the belt with a spanner the first time after turning the engine to 30 degrees BTDC , the tension in the belt changes (Frequency drops from 114.5Hz to approx. 113 Hz). So for comparison, I always turned the crankshaft 2 revs ( to be sure) and then performed the same measurement. After a bit of such fiddling, I got a pretty consistent measurement of around 114Hz, provided this was the first measurement. I have a Krikit on order from the US, so will check the tension with that once I have it. Thanks for all your help Dennis
  20. Thanks. Not sure what the essential knowledge is behind the calculation though? What is the key logic? Dennis
  21. Hi Simon, I just rebuilt my S1 carbs as well and noticed the same thing: the missing spring. However, I checked the S1 shop manual and in the dellorto exploded view diagram, the spring is not there. So I guess it not supposed to be there. Dennis
  22. Hello, can anyone point me in the right direction where I can buy a Krikit KR1. My local shop (Netherlands) doesn't even know why one would need to set belt tension (duh). Amazon.com sells them but shipping & handling is 150% of the tool cost. So I'm looking for a seller in the UK, that can ship it to me. Any idea's? (non-online is okay as well) Thanks!! Dennis
