  1. Bump. Does anyone have or know a steering wheel for sale?? Thx Dennis
  2. Hi Anthony, not sure. Here is pic, maybe you recognize it
  3. Wow, impressive, thanks for posting this! Dennis
  4. OK, will try that and watch if/how the ropes interfere with the spoiler/airbox BTW: the 'trailer' I used was actually a lorry with a flat bed Thanks Dennis
  5. Well, re: equipment: it's only for 8 miles, so a towing rope with a hook or something was my choice indeed My initial thoughts: rope around the front suspension. But will it clear the front spoiler? If not, can it be removed, it looks like it can't I was told some S1's did have a 'towing eye' Simon, I recently rented a trailer to move the car. We loaded it onto the trailer backwards, so we could attach the hoist to the rear suspension
  6. Hi there, my S1 doesn't seem to have a towing eye/device in the front. How does one go about towing the car? I'm afraid to damage the front spoiler lip. Thanks Dennis
  7. Hi Bob, thanks so much for your detailed description. Do I understand correctly that you hoisted the entire car onto a wooden frame?? Dennis
  8. Hi Anthony, sorry for this late response. I have a custom steering wheel in my S1. But not sure what the boss type is. Would you be willing to sell the steering wheel? Dennis
  9. Hi Tony, where would these jackstands be positioned to support the car?
  10. Hello, with the gearbox seemingly being an intregal part of the rear suspension, can I 'roll'/push my car around when I've taken engine & tranny out? Thanks Dennis
  11. Thanks Tony. I'll make sure I upgrade my account to full membership soon! Dennis
  12. Hello, if you have an Esprit S1 steering wheel available, please let me know! Thanks! Dennis
  13. @ Garp: yes it was white, a PO changed it to blue somewhere in history. Some of it's original RDW papers do state 'blue' indeed, but they are dated approx 2 yrs after production. Guess a PO got fed up with the Bond comments. I have had the factory check the chassis number and it left Hethel in white/tartan @ Scott: same thoughts here. I wonder what a period correct brand/type would be? Rgds Dennis
  14. Thanks. What makes it somewhat interesting is that the PO wasn't aware that this was the first RoW car. Not that it carries enormous value, but to me it makes it just that bit more special. Dennis
  15. Thanks for the kind words. I'll keep it red for the coming few years. Ultimatley, it will be white...
  16. 77010100J 1977 S1 is in The Netherlands (Dennis de Vlaam)
  17. Allright, here's a try with the Photobucket instructions (thanks!)
  18. Hi Wayne, does that also include the S1 workshop manual? Dennis
  19. Hello all, after many years of looking for a LHD Esprit in Europe and changing ambition from an S3Turbo to the clean lines of an S1, I finally sealed the deal yesterday. I bought chassis# 100J, being the first RoW S1 Esprit, which turned out to be for sale not even far from my place. Some info on the car: - manufactured in January 1976 - originally sold to The Netherlands (that's where I live...) - matching no's - left the factory in white/tartan - has been restored body-off in 1994, repainted in red, with black leather interior and garaged since then - driven 300km/yr since and passed MoT every year Although the color and interior is not orig spec, the mid 90's resto prevents the need for a full resto now. It passed the PPI easily. I'm going to do the functional maintenance/repairs in order to get it back on the road (carb rebuilt, belt, fix some leaks resulting from limited use) and drive it for a few years first. Next would be a repaint in orig Monaco White (I know, everybody does that etc. But I like it a lot and it's how it left the factory). I might consider a retrim of the interior sometime in the future. I'm actually not sure if this topic belongs in the resto section ;-) But that's wishfull thinking I guess... A few Q's: - Do I post pics using Attachments? - Is there a downloadable S1 workshop manual somewhere? - How hard are the tires to get by and where? Many thanks Dennis Trying to attach pics Can someone pls tell me how I add pics? TIA Dennis img007.pdf
  20. Thanks again Gordon. Yes, the original colour of the car was white, I believe with the tartan interiour. Currently, the car is red with black leather. I've also emailed Lotus, asking whether they can check for matching nr's. Is matching numbers a big thing in Esprits S1? Maybe it will be in the future. Rgds Dennis
  21. Thanks Gordon, so the production numbers are counted per 'destination'? It would be great if you can match it against your list. I've checked the availability of the online Esprit VINS list at the Texas Sports car club, but couldn't find it. Rgds Dennis
  22. Hello all, I'm considering an Esprit S1, one of very few that seem to have been delivered to The Netherlands (so it's a LHD). The VIN is this: 77010 100 J And the engine nr is this: 7770113393 It is my understanding from another post that Esprit's S1 start at '0100', does this mean that this is the first car that left the factory in the production year 1977? Also, are you aware of any contacts at Lotus which are willing to share some info based on a VIN? And the last question: when did Lotus stop with the coloured gelcoat? Would it be possible that this car has a coloured gelcoat? Thanks! Dennis
