What is this engine part?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Do you know what this element is for?
It gets very hot after rolling and I wanted to know if I should worry and consider placing it elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for your feedback ;)

I believe that’s the vacuum solenoid used to control the exhaust flap and go between quiet and loud.

@Theshur

No problem. It's definitely a vacuum solenoid for something, and I don't believe the 410/430 uses them for anything else. (The other models have an intake bypass which I think also utilises the same part for vacuum switching)

That said, I don't recognise the pipework arrangement around the solenoid.

I might be wrong, but I'm sure on a 410/430 you have a pipe from the intake manifold going to a vacuum reservoir, which than goes to the solenoid, and the solenoid outlet just goes straight to the exhaust actuator. Yours appears to be t-pieced and more complicated.
