Replacing rear side marker lights

Do I really have to remove the rear bumper cover to get to the side marker lamps? Or am I not seeing the obvious easy way?

NO, you can access the marker lights behind the overflow tank in the boot and the passenger side behind the carpet. Feel your way behind the carpet and you'll feel a rubber grommet in the side, this is where you can access the wires etc. I filled my side markers in so I didn't have to mess with them anymore(the euro cars only have the marker lights under the lotus logo on the front fender.

By the way, how do the lamps snap into place? The left side lamp on my car is loose and I can't figure out how it snaps in...perhaps because I can't see in there! Is it just a friction fit or a push and turn or ?
