Esprit Turbo timing

Just done a search on this subject and I'm a little confused as there were a couple of different answers. Can anyone tell me what the the timing for a late 1985 Esprit Turbo should be at idle when checking with a timing strobe and if there are other engine speeds that a different timing can be used as a check?

Thanks.

If its an LC, timing would not normally be checked at idle, it should be checked at maximum advance. This is achieved by checking with a strobe with the engine running at 3500rpm. From memory thats 28 BTDC. I'll check exact figure tomorrow.

Definitive answer for a Domestic <87 :

12 degrees BTDC static

ignition timing to be set 28degrees BTDC @ 3500-4000 RPM

all +/- 2 degrees

Section TDB service notes 80-87 Turbo Esprit

cheers Steve
