How many gold V8's

Hi Can anyone shed some light on how many Sahara gold V8 GT'S were built? I have been told 3 but find it hard to believe they would paint so few. So far I have found the original press car and heard of just one other.

Can't be many. As you probably know, there's Will Pitt's Gold V8 which used to belong to Mike Bews and was a press car. Here it is at Castle Combe and below a press pic:

We had a thread on old press cars: Clicky and a thread on Champagne colour Esprit's Clicky and here Clicky but can't remember one on gold.

Medina green S4's only three I think so they do quite a lot of low volume colours!!

I think that gold was the same colour they used on the S2. Gold was more popular in the 70s.

Mine has black leather SE seats, SE wing and just half an hour ago an engine management light that has come on I am told it is a Peugeot colour it just seems strange they painted one 98 car then 2 years later painted another

I'm pretty certain that even nowadays they'll paint a car any colour the customer is prepared to pay for.

Tom, the reason I asked about your interior colour was because the only Gold V8 as late as yours that I'm aware of had/has red interior. So it's intriguing that there's two customer specced cars that had the gold paint a year or so after the factory press/promo cars.

It's a rare beasty, for sure. Enjoy it.

Don't know if this is the same V8 GT as the press car, but there's no decal on the body work so may be another:

From what I have been told Lotus only made 2 gold GT's one being the press car and the other

was the show car.

A few years later some one loved the gold GT and asked for one to be made in that colour for them.

Not sure if this is a fact, this is what the owner of mine told me before I bought it. He had the show car from 1998.
