Consensus being do you really need one ?

I would ahve thought the example above would just conduct heat and not overly solve the problem.

I must admit the thermal damage mine does to the parts around it is fairly noticable I was thinking of fitting a blanket like this :

Might go well with my manifold heat shield I have just about to finish.

I prefer the idea of being able to have air circulating around a hot turbo.

Sure, protect any other parts of the car that might be suffering from the heat of the unit, but I don't like the thought of wrapping a red hot chunk of metal in an insulating blanket.

I say don't do it, especially with the rust that you tend to accumulate (blanket holds moisture on turbo when car is off).

My friend ceramic coated the outside of his exhaust manifold on his mostly track driven Esprit X180-R, and the turbine housing was recently found to be completely cracked due to excess heat! Theory is that the manifold coating held more heat in and passed it to the turbo. THe coating was effective, I could hold my hand near the manifold right after being run hard on the track.
