The thermal ignition valve proved to be functioning correctly. So I'm still running at 30 degrees at idle. Vacuum connected or disconnected makes no difference as when hot, vacuum is taken from the throttle edge port which only sees real vacuum when the throttle is opened a fair ways.

The only thing I can find that is questionable is the restrictor shown in lotus notes plumbed into the dizzy vac line to the thermal ignition valve, is not there. So throttle vacuum is very pulsed as it is provided by piston inlet stroke. Even then its only from one carb barrell, the very front one.

Anyone actually seen this restrictor, its not even there on my car! It's taken me a good 9 months to get the car into a position to pass an MOT, and now it's driveability is questionable at best. I can't seem to crack this problem and may have to live with it. At the spec 10 degrees idle timing setting the car is undriveable on the road, giving all the symptoms of too far retarded, lack of power, won't pick up etc, and will only run smoothly on load with 30 degrees at tickover, it's mad, mad, mad.

Any advise on this restrictor gadget in the vac line from the dizzy, as shown in lotus notes??
