Well, 6th of jan i was chatting to Fishy on messenger (i blames him!),

I say bye and then line drops. My mate that mends my PC for me says

the modem was busted, full of shrimps possibly.

So with wanadoo saying they will send a new one out, i was stuck to looking

at the forum (and my e-mail, and all other internet) on my windows powered

mobile phone. Real handy as i was selling a lot of stuff on e-bay and had to

deal with it all in this way.

After a week i phoned wanadoo to see where the modem was. I waited for 40

minutes in a queue, It then took me twelve (no lie), twelve minutes for the guy

to read back my landline number correctly!!! I honestly thought it was a wind up

(you know, 'click' paul you have been on 203fm's weekday windup, here's your

prize), but no. After about 1 hour of phone call i finally esablished who i was,

only to get told the modem would be '10 days'.

So i dig the old 56k modem laptop out ad get a pay as you go internet CD.

Took me 4 hours to get online, and 4 calls to their helpline (50p a minute).

It's so slow i don't have the patience, two days ago i visited the forum for

a peek. To sign Vic out, sign myself in, and get the homepage, took twenty

minutes, i clicked on stevens tech, waited five minutes more, and the line

dropped.

I phoned them this morning to see where modem was 'it has not been shown

as been despached'

So. Monday they are sending one. Also, i am getting 1000 speed connection

instead of my 512, so i should be much happier when/if it arrives and works.

It would have been quicker, on the 6th for me unsubscribe and go buy a new

modem and connection pack, but there you go....

Anything happening i should know? would take

me 1000 years to read it all at this current speed.

Yeah, anyone phone the hospitals?

I'm having bad luck with techy stuff at the moment. Last sunday we changed

the telly as the old one started whistling like a bad kettle, the printer died the

day after the modem, and rattles like a rattley thing rather than accept paper.

Am going out early in the SE tomorrow for a blast. Am concerned the ECU will

go all nutty like everything else i've touched. Although the fact the gritting lorries

are covering my road right now ain't a good sign for an early morning jaunt...

I know all too well the screaming fits of anguish related to problems with your ISP. BTBroadband buggered my one up back in October, it was only down for 7 days but it took me another 14 to calm down from all the seething...

Must be two years since we inserted a red hot iron up BT's bottom

and went to wanadoo (nee freeserve). What bugs me is that i'm decent

enough to give people a couple of days over their maximum postage time

before i ring to see where it is - only to find it was never sent.

Will the difference between 1000 and 512 be as amazing as i'd expect?

I'm off out in the Esprit for some aimless wandering in a minute, poor

thing ain't turned a wheel in over two weeks, and then it was raining and

just running it for running it sake. Today i have fog and a hard frost, but

i have to give it a run to keep it good.

I do think it's stupid that i ran Esprits for five years without ever using a

PC, let alone seeing the 'internet'. Yet now having both seems vital...

It might still be worth looking at an alternative ISP if the modem hasn't turned up, that's poor service.

You're doubling speed so will notice perhaps a slight improvement in pages loading but these can only go so fast due to the host server. There will be an improvement in downloading files thought so that's all good.

Currently on 8mb at home, that's good for downloading, err, 'artistic' movies and the like

Mmm...

Wish i'd spoke to that nice lady to start with. Modem came today,

and i managed to install without getting angry, which is a first.

Any time in the next ten days, it'll switch to 1000 bananas and i'll

accelerate into the future!!!!!
