With several holes either side of the silencer I guess a new exhaust system is on the cards.. I have enquired about getting a stainless system made but these are being quoted at

Stainless is definitely the way to go .. I fitted one to my 82 turbo in 1988 and it's still perfect. Expect the usual Lotus frustrations when fitting, broken bolts/studs etc. needing some re-engineering - and threading the pipes through in the first place can be a head-scratching process. Worth it in the end!

Thanks,

It is quite rusty under there so plenty of WD40 will be used!!!!

What I have been advised by people with other makes of car is that buying a system and fitting yourself can have fitting problems whereas getting a custom build guarentees fit. So has anyone experianced poor fitting exhausts they tried installing themselves?

Also there is two tubes from silencer to engine, one goes to the turbo but whats the other?

Cheers

Ian

Brado, the other smaller diameter pipe goes to the wastegate.

The US federal spec Esprits came with a low restriction stainless exhaust from new (to offset the restriction from the catylitic converter)

Maybe you might be able to find one of these silencers in the Lotus U.K. parts inventory.

You would have to also get a couple of new turbo/wastegate to silencer pipes made if you want to use this exhaust without fitting the Catylitic converter.
