My cars boost gauge shows a max pressure of approx 11psi under hard acceleration. I believe the maximum pressure for the turbo on these cars should be around 8psi. Is that correct? Are the gauges accurate?

Evening all. I have an SJ StSt 4-1 exhaust system. Was a bugger to fit but got there in the end. For reasons, a couple of years ago, I changed out the centre box to a through pipe - great noise. Car now seems to run rich. Nothing else has been changed but to be honest, its always been on the richer side when my MOT garage used to check emissions or whatever. Could the centre exhaust section be the culprit? I also have a K&N filter but the air intake system is otherwise stock. Thanks in advance...

I bought a rear silencer from them 32 years ago for £159, which came with a life time warranty. One of the connecting pipes rusted completely through so I contacted Double S Exhausts. To my surprise they said if I still had the original invoice and warranty card they would take a look at it. I had it couriered to them and within a few weeks it was repaired and sent back free of charge! I’m amazed and the silencer is as good as new again. Obviously I highly recommend them, hence this post.

Alunox are looking for a rear system (turbo back) from a HCi Turbo to use to develop a Stainless Steel direct replacement. I know this is rare car but if anyone has one and is willing to let Alunox have it for a while, they Will give a discount on the new system. They will also pay the postage each way. If you can help with this you can hold of me or email leon@alunox.co.uk Or richard@alunox.co.uk Thanks Mark

Hey folks ! I have been offered an 84 Turbo in the USA, which I condsider worth looking at so it might be a future purchase! The owner told me, he had removed all the emission systems including cat. I have beeen looking in the parts manual, but couldn't find, what I have been looking for. Since the car must be a carb car, the cat should be an "unregulated" catalyst, right? So no oxygen sensor and fancy electronics?! Can anybody enlight me ? 😉 Cheers, Patrick Edit :Sorry, wrong category! Can anyone move this thread to Guigiaro/Exhaust?

83 Turbo Esprit. The waste-gate diaphragm split so, as expected, it wasn't regulating the turbo pressure. I have a new diaphragm from JAE but can't figure out how to get the old out of the "cup",washer, diaphragm sandwich. Do the two aluminum parts just separate or are they threaded together? Thanks for your help! Rich

Esprit exhaust flow improvements The largest obstacles to Esprit exhaust performance improvement are: 1. boost restriction limited to 7psi (despite advertised 9.5 psi), 2. OE turbocharger turbine exducer port diameter (1.90") is too small for good flow. Replacement turbo turbine should have ~2" exducer to reduce exhaust gases back-pressure /choking. 3. Turbo-to-down pipe adapter, (also acting as an external w/gate gas mixing chamber), is waaay too restrictive. As I said before, the adapter/extension on the 1984 - 1988 turbos cannot be opened up, because the wall of inner passage tube is too thin. I.D. of the tube measures 1.9" and the wall thickness is …

Hi Guys The boost gauge on my car has started behaving erratically. When I give the car some beans, the needle just jumps about and doesn’t give any meaningful reading. I recently rebuilt the wastegate and the gauge worked fine for a while but has now gone haywire. Any idea what can cause this, other than a faulty gauge?

I picked up the Alunox headers - back group buy about 5 years ago, but just got around to doing the install this weekend. Everything went ok (considering), except the last bit. The battery box is in the way of having the muffler sit where it should, and I certainly can't attach the two outlet pipes. I feel like the only solution here is to cut out the battery box, but that seems crazy. I know I'm REALLY late on this, but does anyone else run the Alunox exhaust? Did you have a similar issue? It could be due to UK/US differences, but I hate to cut the car to make the exhaust fit.

Hi All, Another seemingly simple problem I can't seem to resolve on my Federal S2. In this case, for the life of me I cannot determine how to attach the silencer to the rear of the car so it is safely secured. I've got the Federal style Silencer Mounting Plate (installed on my gearbox) and the mounting rings. The rings provide the support for the silencer but I cannot see how/where to attach them to the Silencer Mounting Plate. I've seen photos of home market cars and the silencer doesn't appear to attach to the Euro version of the Silencer Mounting Plate. I've thoroughly reviewed the Parts Manual and I do not seem to be missing any brackets, hangars, etc. to a…

Hi everyone, I'm seeing posts about group buys from Alunox but they are all from a good few years ago - what is the current situation on manifold replacements - and, is the recommendation to replace the entire system?

Before my engine goes back I decided to replace the gaskets on the exhaust manifold. Nuts were rusted to nearly nothing so right thing to do. Now got all 12 nuts off and soaked the area in WD40. I am expecting the manifold to be stuck fairly fast has anyone got any tips on free it off? Thanks

Just a curio really, Whilst Ihad to remove everything to get at the alternator, I decided to do a test and clean the intake trumpets, using varioud differnt no-chemical solutions. Here's the result, but the real question is should I get them replated? Thoughts/comments most welcome BTW, photo is "after" - didn't take a "before" as I was keen to get going ......

Hi, I'm looking for a good performance parts supplier. In particular I'm looking for a stainless steel exhaust manifold for an S2 Esprit. I know SJ Sportscars stock one but just wandered if there's any alternative? What would the guys who race an esprit use and where do they buy parts from? Cheers, Hank

Hi All, On my 82 Turbo Esprit, the driver's side (RHD) air scoop feeds the engine's intake. The passenger side scoop however has been modified by a previous owner and simply sends air across the left side fuel tank via a bendy hose and vaguely into the engine compartment. It's all a bit ugly and cobbled together. Can anyone tell me what is the factory arrangement for the left side scoop? If anyone has a photo of the standard setup, that would be terrific. Many Thanks, Keir

Took the car out for a couple of short runs as a shakedown after some recent work. Upon return, I do what I always have done - which is to leave it idling for about 3-5 mins just to let everything settle down before turning it off. After I turn off the ignition, I can now count about 5 seconds, and there is a little "Pop" just like a small backfire. This also happens even when the car has been running on the drive and getting up to temp. Could someone explain why this happens ? - and if it is OK to leave as is, or is there another opportunity to fix something before it breaks ? PS - Turning the stereo up doesn't fix the problem 😉

Hi all, Just as I was enjoying the Esprit Turbo this passed summer, I noticed the immense heat coming from the left rear wheel well. On my previous '89 & newer ones the factory installed a shield, just wondering if anyone has installed this "exact" piece (see pic) on a G body N/A &/or Turbo, not looking for custom (got that now, & am not too keen on keeping it, looks, well...home made) would like this factory piece. Just wanting that little extra piece of mind for tires' sake

I'm looking to put a (replacement) heatshield (mine's missing) on LH side to protect the tyre from exhaust pipe heat. I think the part is the Radius Arm heatshield C082E4091F on page 45.05A of the parts manual - is this correct? If it is, I can't see how this should mount to the chassis - so I was hoping someone could share an image of how this thing should? I have this image showing what appears to be fixing holes - but nothing matches the parts as listed Any help greatly appreciated

I fabricated a long branch header for a low end torque, twin turbo system. It is absolutely equal length. 1&4 feed one turbo, 2&3 feed the other. The turbos are sized correctly. When I rev to 3k RPM no load and hold it there for a couple of minutes it glows red hot like the cast iron manifold in the popular factory test photo. I would like some insight on mixture / cam adjustments to bring the temp down a bit and improve efficiency, I suspect the improvement in scavenging may have something to do with it. It is amazing how much easier and faster the engine revs vs the stock manifold / turbo. Do the Alunox, etc SS manifolds glow like this during a short n…

Anyone else had this issue? I've already had it repaired once but suspect if I do it again the repair won't last long. The rest of the backbox is in reasonable nick. IMAG1653 by Peter Gentilli IMAG1654 by Peter Gentilli

Hi All, I'm looking for a (discontinued?) 1986/1987/ US 88 Esprit Turbo wastegate, made by PNM, part number PNME9206 . Sometimes it happens that someone bought the part, but had no time to install it and a it is sitting somewhere on the "forgotten treasures" shelf. I'd like to help you in converting it into CASH! Image uploading. Refresh page to view . Thank you
