Excel SE Exhaust System

The Excel's exhaust is nearing the end of it's life. Although the pipes and silencers are in stainless the joint connectors are in mild steel which is badly rusted and cracked in a few places, the central expansion box also has internal rattles. I have two options, the first being to purchase a full s/s system from SJ's in Devon and fit it myself, and the second to get a s/s system fabricated to fit. As the car is a tight fit in my garage and I am retired, I am drawn to the second option at the moment. Can anyone recommend a company they have used and would use again.

I live in Orpington near Bromley in south east London and would ideally like to deal with a company not too far away (say within 30 miles).

You do have another option worth considering.

Have a word with Mike Taylor (Lotusbits.com) near Warwick, he specialises in Excels so may have a new exhaust system or a decent second hand one, then have it fitted locally to you, or pop up to Mike and they can fit it on site, pus you get a nice drive.

I'd second what Andy said , speak to Mike at lotusbits, they specialise in the Excel and other 900 series engined cars and have a great setup, worth a day out just to see the amount of stock he has up there.

I had mine made at Bells of Swindon (a bit more than 30 miles - but not so far).

It's been on now for about 5 years and has been fine. They took the car for a week and made a stainless one the same at the Lotus exhaust that was falling off.

Thanks very much for your responses. It seems, as with all good things there is no cheap way of doing things properly so it is time to decimate the wallet. Will let you know the outcome in due course.

Longlife in Carshalton are fairly local to Bromley. A freind has used them and said good things.

I have also used Powerflow of Harlow, but not on the Lotus. Found the powerflow one to be a bit noisy and Max power style.

Hi, have you tried ss exhausts ( www.stainlesssteelexhausts.com/ )I have a 86 excel se and i bought a system off them a few years ago which is still on the car with no probs and carries a lifetime guarantee. Ive just looked on their website and theyre still trading so it may be worth a call... Good luck, Mick..

Thanks again guy's. Gerald at GST Performance is obtaining a new s/s system with lifetime guarantee for me and fitting it late june. As I am away for the next couple of weeks this will fit in well.
