is there a name for the classic Lotus Type 25 GP racing?

Recommended Posts

Now, we simply call the Grand Prix - Formula One

and the race car - Formula One cars

What's in the old day? Such as LOTUS Type 25. Is there a name for this type of "tube body shape racer"?

Anybody knows the history please help me?

I want to find out more information about these classic racers?

Is there a site to show most of the classic GP cars?

Thx Eric

This is by no means comprehensive but by the year/styling of a particular car you should be able to at the very least find out what class it raced in: http://www.hgpca.net/classes.php

I have no idea where to find any more detailed information though, any other ideas out there?

There are probably a few decent books on the subject, you may want to check a local library or something.

Thx Paul,

yes, I see the title "historic grand prix cars". This is the name I want.

thx!

if there are sites about different manufacturers / race teams. I need information for wheelbase measurement, height & width, etc.

but I dont know most of the model numbers of the race cars, so I cannot move further.

May be someone can just give me name of the team, and I can just search google "XXXX Grand Prix"

Then I will find more race cars.

Thx Eric

if you want to get on informations about the F1 history , use terms like

Formel 1 *750KG Formel

Forme1 *1.5 L Formel

...it would guide you into the world of Formula 1history *Grand Prix*, in terms from covered two-seater cars and Monoposto racing from the Time of the 1930 up to the 1960

to name the things if I see them, that's what I call integrity..

Good luck with the research... seems like you have embarked on a large task!

By the way,....I think I find out what I need, too... "google List of Formula One World Drivers' Champions"

One problem with that approach is that you will only get the cars which the champions drove and will miss out on capturing such marques as Vanwall who competed with a degree of success between 1954 and 1959.

As far as your search criteria are concerened, depending on which references are returned, you may miss the fact that Stirling Moss was driving for Vanwall in 1958 and, despite winning 4 races to Hawthorn's one(in a Ferrari), was pipped to the Drivers' World Championship, by Hawthorn, by only one point. That year Vanwall won the Constructors' World Championship in the first year that it was competed for.

Vanwall is, to Englishmen at least, an iconic marque and has links to Colin Chapman (should at least be of interest to Lotus owners) and Frank Costin (the 'cos' in Marcos).

From 76 to 96 you would also miss the Ligier team (Equipe Ligier) who pioneered structural fuel tanks (later bannned on safety grounds) and are enormously important to the French.

Given the nature of the competition, a comprehensive list is going to be enormous and will include some surprising names.

Anyway, good luck with it all. Let us know how you get on with the task.

Hi Eric,

That sounds like a good goal for which your trawl of champions cars should more than suffice. Looking forward to seeing some results.

Regards,

CJ
