Milky brake fluid

Recommended Posts

After you pump the brakes to empty the accumulator, is it normal for the brake fluid in the rear reservoir to be milky looking?

I'm assuming it is somehow being aerated, and it seems like this is sure to cause problems when it gets into the brake lines.

Let me know, thanks in advance. (1994 Esprit S4, btw)

I have had the same with my own S4 when beeding the brakes through. I was of a similar opinion, but it has been fine on several occasions on replacing the fluid.

I had that as well Richard and found that it was at the same time as my accumulator was dieing. Once I replaced the accumulator (after testing to ensure it was that) I didn't get the issue again. It is aeration and if you look at the sectional drawings of the system, you can see that if the accumulator leaks, it will get back to the rear chamber via the return in the bottom of the chamber.

I won't guarantee you that your accumulator is failing, but that is what caused mine.

Michael.
