1990 SE - front/rear valence mesh inserts

Anyone happen to know whether the wire mesh inserts were originally sprayed black or were they just self coloured?

I dont know the answer to your question but I've had my grills silver/grey to clean them up a bit. But now I've stripped off the front underside of the tray and air ducts, I've removed all the grills for a proper clean up/replace and I will be spraying them up black.

My '89 non-SE is very original and unmolested (6200 miles on the clock when I bought it); both front and rear mesh carry satin black paint. The front grille on my car differs somewhat from the SE, of course, but I think black would be a safe assumption.
