Carburetor help needed

Dammit, I'm very upset at myself right now! :o

I am overhauling the Dellortos on my red car, and I broke the pin holder (the split one) when I was tapping the pin out. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!:P:P

So now the entire top cover is bad because of this.

Questions:

1) Can this porous aluminium-like stuff be welded?

2) Anyone have a spare top cover for a DHLA45E they would like to sell?

3) Are the top covers the same for all the DHLAs? If not, How about among the variants of the 45s?

4) Anyone know of someone with spare parts and fair prices, especially in the States?

Separate question:

Do I need to use any kind of loctite in the screws when reassembling these? I don't expect so, but when the top covers came off, I couldn't tell if the crap on the threads was corrosion or loctite.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Did the very same thing as you Tony on a 45 DCOE Weber whilst racing the Titan Mk.4 at Watkins Glen 3 years ago. :o

I jury rigged the post with lock wire, and its been fine for 3 seasons! :o

I have never used any thread locker on the top screws (or any of the others )on a Dellorto carb (or any other type or make)

Steve, can you post a picture of it, top and bottom, alongside a ruler or measuring tape?

If the one for the 40 is different, then. . .

How about www.eurocarbs.com?

I found them on the web, seems like a nice guy, says the part is in stock; anyone know about or have experience with them?

Thanks for the replies!

Well, about $120 later, I ordered a new one. That was an expensive tap on a pin.

Wayne -- thanks for the mention about no threadlocker. I never did either, although my experience is a grain of sand compared to yours. I guess these carbs were just corroded a little.

I thought of "rigging" it, and looked into ways of repairing "pot metal", but this is one of those times for me when time is money, and I may waste more fiddling with it than just buying the part. I may at some point take the old one to a jeweler to repair it (they do a lot of soldering of low-melting-point metals), or repair it myself.

:(UPDATE, AND HAPPY ENDING:

After the top that I bought from eurocarb did not work (the choke passageways were different and the brass slug didn't fit), I ended up taking the broken top to a jewelry repair place where they laser-welded it. Good as new! :)

Better yet, the owner of the jewelry store owns a Jensen Interceptor!

Always nice to know there's someone worse off than you.
