Current Head unit in Exige V6

Recommended Posts

I got a little black case with my stereo instructions. It looks like it's the right size for the front of the head unit but I can't work out how to get the front off. I'll never listen to the stereo so I figure I might as well remove any extra incentive for scrotes to break in.

Is it removable and if so how? :)

If it's like my alpine in my sprint then one of the corners is a button and it pops out, possible the lower left (guess)

Thanks. I had a quick look around the edges but couldn't see any obvious release button. I'll have a better look at the weekend.

I'm assuming there is a release button otherwise why would there be a perfectly-sized box to carry the front panel in?

Sorry to mislead you  :no, here is an image of a unit like the one in my S2, you can see the eject button that I've highlighted.

And I've also highlighted what I think is the button in the previous image.

Hope this helps.

You didn't mislead me at all, in fact your reply was very helpful. :)

I think I'm just being an idiot who can't find what looks like a really obvious button.

For anyone else reading this. The current unit in my 2015 car is the Alpine CDE-181, and it's still pretty rubbish.

It does integrate with iPhones/iPods over USB, but my phone is an Android, and it doesn't work. I'm going to get it swapped for something that can do Bluetooth streaming.

Seems a waste to ship the cars with these if I'm honest, I wonder how many get swapped out almost immediately on delivery? Probably a pretty high percentage ;)

I Wish they'd give you an option to factory ship units with Bluetooth in Lieu of a CD player. After all they are about the same price retail, and who really listens to CD's any more?

Just upgraded the unit to a basic Pioneer BT unit. Can make calls, and stream internet audio, the colours match, and it sounds better than FM, so everything is good!  (It's also much lighter for all the weight weenies :) )

I generally only listen to RDIO in my daily driver (free premium subscription and data included with the car help ;) )

Will have to see how much of my phone's data allowance I end up using :D

Finally managed to have a crack at this today, I didn't think it was going to fit but with some firm shoving, the stereo is back in the cage with the phone mount inserted. The stereo does just clip in with the two spring-loaded pins at the front, which you can get to without removing the fascia trim, but I think it unlikely you'll pull the stereo out without taking it off as it's very snug to the top of the dash area.

The only downside to this mount is that the clip on that side doesn't relocate, because it's blocked by the mount itself. It's clipped on the other side though and exceptionally firmly inserted, so I think it will be OK! Here's a pic:

Now I just need to work out how to pick up a switched power wire behind the dash and work out where to mount a cigarette lighter power socket. At the moment the power to the phone mount is from the standard cigarette lighter and having the wire stretching to the dash is not the best way to go!

Anybody know how I can easily locate a wire to chop into for the power?

Could you tell me where this mount is from? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Chris

I have a feeling they are no longer made as I think Dashmount didn't have any and think I got my order refunded. I ordered mine from http://www.chameleondirect.co.uk/ (Part #NHB305 £20 delivered)
