Exhaust Manifold Engine Gearbox Clearance

Recommended Posts

Yesterday when finishing up on the mounting on tof the gearbox in the car and hand tightening of the exhaust manifold i discoverd that there is only a few mm of clearance between the manifold and the "Clutch housing - Engine" flange. There is not enough space for mounting the bracket for the Turbo support strut. See the picture below.

Maybe someone has a picture I can use for reference.

Not sure what you are referring to....

Are we assuming this is an Alunox ss system you are fitting... If so

the bolt you refer to that hold the turbo support bracket , should

be an Allen cap screw...this will allow room to do the job..

This picture shows how tight it has to be , but the Allen cap bolt is

behind the bracket.

Its indeed the alunox manifold. I was referring to where the manifold passes the "engine - clutch housing flange". The space between the manifold and the "flange" is only a couple of mm (I had to use a file to achieve some space).

I know about the bolt, the one in the picture is only a temporary one.

Hi kenny,

Yes i totally agree with Alunox on that...

I think to memory i mentioned that point in the thread i did about the technical

functions of the manifold and system..

The reason this one is wrapped is because it is on mine which has a slightly

different set up... without going into to much detail, its partly to do with keeping

the heat down in the totally sealed engine bay, (which is hard to believe if you have

seen the glowing video) also to do with heat loss and velocity up to the turbo..( part of my

tuning requirement.)

The upside is i am putting it to extremes beyond the norm, so a good test bench on reliability.
