1" play in steering wheel.

Now that I've started to drive the car more often, I'm finding out all the little running problems and one thing that I'd like to improve is the play on the steering wheel. Can this be adjusted in anyway? I'm pretty sure the play is at the steering column box in the engine bay, can this be refurbed or is it a replacement jobby?

Yes, there is a slight amount of play in the uj, however with my hand clutching the uj assembly there seems to excessive play at the steering box, can the box be refurbished?

the steering rack? Yes, - its a normal triumph steering rack if its manual , and a modified ford item if its PAS.

It's PAS. I don't want to source a complete rack or would you have too?

Actually Dunc, you're spot on, on second inspection the play is in the UJ so I reckon a new assembly will greatly improve things, seems like a cheapish fix, so will order a new one.
