Rear diffuser

Recommended Posts

Whilst travelling rather sedately (luckily) my rear under bumper diffuser decided to part company with the car,the retaining bolts had just literally rusted through and as i said luckily no one was behind me and it didn't damage anything else.I'm thinking of making an aluminum mesh type affair has anyone done this before?

Simplest things first.

Interested to know how you gained access to the inside retaining bolts.  They look pretty much inaccessible within the bumper.

As mine had sheared one side and i was in the middle of now where, i just levered the remaining side off as the bolts were so badly rusted the remaining side sheared off with minimal effort/damage.I then had the support 'towers' repaired where the fibre glass had broken, resprayed and drilled out the remaining bolt shanks and rethreaded the attachments inside the bumper. If your attachments inside the bumper are shot then its a bumper off job i'm afraid accompanied by much hilarity and fun.

If the mounts for the diffuser are the same as the GT3, you can get them off and new ones back on without taking the bumper off. I did mine in the summer - you can undo the small bolts underneath the bumper and flex the plastic enough to get your hand in. The mounts themselves are bolted into the bottom of the boot. I made new ones out of some angle aluminium I had lying about and epoxied nuts on as I didn't have any rivnuts.... Then can jam arm inside bumper, hold them in place while helper screws bolts in. Then diffuser will bolt back on properly, rather than being held on just by the bumper plastic, as mine was.

If the diffuser mounts are ok, should just be one bolt each side, accessed via holes in the underside.

Snap! It's not too bad a job to do to cover the fin. I did mine as it was easier than painting it black, plus I've done all the other trims with carbon look. Hopefully it will be removed this year and the new V8 stainless trim fitted with twin centre exhaust.
