Wishbone issue

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Changing all the bushes, bought poly bushes from SJ's but I'm having an issue with the wishbones.  In the photo below you can see where the bush will sit but it is too big, I think thats because there is an old metal sleeve from a bush stuck in there. I experimented with a bit of heat to see if it moved and it didn't shift. Can anyone tell me if they are actually fitted or have these just welded themselves in over time and if so, does anyone have any ideas how they will come out ! All four are the same.  I checked on SJ's for a picture of the original part and it looks like that inner metal bush isn't there....

Help appreciated as usual , thanks

The outer steel sleeve of the original bush is sticking in the arm due to corrosion (they are a tight fit anyway). One way to remove the sleeve is to weaken it by hacksawing a groove in its inner face (taking care not to go through and damage the arm) and then peening the sleeve in on itself.

Just put them in a press and push them out,  that's how everyone else does it ,  You will need the press to put the new ones in anyway, So find a local garage with a press take your new bush;s  with you and get the job done in one , will only cost you a few quid and save loads of time and hassle.
