Can speaker wires power a USB type port?

I’ve removed my speakers as they are no longer needed. However can the remaining speaker wires be used to power a USB/cigarette type power socket as per this thread?

Not unless they are of a decent thickness and fused accordingly.

id simply buy a kit from somewhere and do the job properly

Hi Barry thanks for setting me straight. When you say buy a kit and do it properly can you explain more? Im new to 'electrics' so learning from scratch! I just basically want to feed a device power on the drivers side.

if you use the incorrect rated cable you run the risk of it melting and the associated problems with such issues
