  1. Although an old thread, and probably not of any interest., but I've redyed the whole interrior on my Corrado, incl. cleaning all old colour off first, rejuvinating the fibres, and the prepping, dying, and clearcoating. Used Furniture Clinic, and it worked well using a heatgun, and a propper compressor for airsupply to spraygun. Very resistant to wear and tear, actually like new still. I am thinking of re-dyeing the SE's leather as the seats have wear. Anyone knows the colour (like maybe someone else use the same) ? Cheers, Jacques.
  2. Can we have a look at the embossment? And maybe the finished article? Would surely like to see how it looks. Cheers, Jacques.
  3. Hello all, Thanks a lot for the nice welcome. I am cleaning the car inside out, plus some small jobs to do here and there. But not really yet, as I am busy with something else, and I need to move the car to a bigger space for storage and service. Yes, It's Håkans car, and yes he is a genuinely nice person and I trust he did a lot on the car during his long ownership. Sure, I'll drop you a line Vanya, when I pass through Sweden next time. Yes, it was a nice drive home, in very nice sun and 21 degrees. Rock steady oil at 60 degrees cel. and water at 80 degrees cel. Hope that is fine? Hi Stig, I won't be in Hornbæk this weekend, but sometime sooner or later for sure. I also have Corrado G60, and I hope that in my Lotus ownership I shall not find the same spare part situation, as I do with Corrado parts - nearly none available. Surely the Brits must be much more enthusiastic about their cars Anywau I hope to be able to find the needed spare in the future. Cheers, Jacques
  4. I think it's a bargain when I think of how widely it's known, and what it did to movies, and Lotus. Cheers, Jacques.
  5. Hi all, My name is Jacques, I'm 45 and I have been looking for an Esprit for some time, well, quite some time. Actually for some 35 years. But time flies. I've been reading on the web for a few years, and finally, I took on the "hard" work to go and look for an Esprit in the flesh. I ended up with a nice red and magnolia SE from 1990, and look forward to work on it and later on drive it. The first surprise I had was that I can actually fit just nicely in the Esprit. I am 1,88m and after reading about the Esprit being quite cramped, I feared the worst. No worries at all, it's just fine. Fortunately, I had a nice long drive home, about 600 kilometers, and got to know the car a bit more. The seller is surely on here too, and he was very nice indeed, with lots of genuine interest in his Lotuses. I will try to keep up, though it will surely be hard. Many things have been done before I bought it, like alu tanks, stainless exhaust, engine going over, and much more. Still, I will try to make it how I want it, and most of all, enjoy driving it, and keep it fresh. It seems there's a steep learinig curve, both driving it and making mechanical things. For this I may need to ask you guys for some advice. Right now, I am looking for some bigger original wheels, like S4, V8 or that style. I am not aware if they fit on the se, regarding the width. But I did read about the need to enlarge the centering to put them on. So, lot's of new inputs and making a few plans for future enjoyment and maybe a few mods. Cheers, Jacques
  6. sounds like a good idea not just rebuilding, but also enjoying driving That must be the plan then - a future respray. Kind regards, Jacques
  7. Hmm, must be too much sun. Btw, sorry for the misspellings, I may be too tired to look at Esprit's Kind regards, Jacques
  8. It's a car that I am looking at to but. Sure, it will be garages most of the time, and taken out for leisure I don't take my Corrado and Laverda out, unless it's sunny, and I want to have fun with it. For daily transportation, I use a bicycle. Cannot really make the rub test, need to buy the car first. It's just that it's gone pink'ish. Thanks for the answers. When the car hopefully ends up in my garage soon, I'll report back on my findings. So, let's say it's gone pink'ish on the upside surfaces. But kept the read all other places, like doorframes, front compartment ets, is it crazy jsut to respray it on the "outside", or should all glass come out etc? Kind regards, Jacques
  9. Thanks for the reply. Not mine yet, but working on it Have to make an overview of what's to be done. and if I could keep a respray off for as long as possible, I would do that. But it seems that nothing can be polished then. I'm a sucker for original paint, if they look good. Modern paint seems to be a bit soft and easily scratched. I guess it's a full respray then;( Kind regards, Jacques.
  10. Helle all, I would like to know if the red original oaint on a 89 stevens Esprit (and se) can be polished back to red, if it's fainted or gone pinkish? In other words: Are there any clear coat over the red paint, or is in included in the red volour? Kind regards, Jacques.
  11. What about the length of coolant pipes under the car, over the undertray, inside the chassis? And secondly, what can a slight loss in turbo pressure come from (anything else than the turbo)? Kind regards, Jacques.
  12. HI John, Thanks for the great answer. I'll do everything you've described. And will look for rotten coolant pipes as well. Thanks a lot. Kind regards, Jacques.
  13. Thanks, that is fine. I'll just need to know more on the coolant spillage then. Best wishes, Jacques.
  14. Hello everyone, I am totally new to Lotus, but have been looking for a Stevens Turbo 88/89 or an early SE for a while. I have found one which have been imported many years ago, and not really been used for the last 4 year or so. It have been started and could drve to a workshop (they don't do Lotus). I have seen it but not having it started, as I mentioned a fair amount of coolant underneath the car, both front and rear. Front seems around between the front wheels (lhd. btw.) and rear just somewhere under the engine/boot area. Could not see anything yet. I may be given a take it or leave it offer, and I insisted that it should be started and driven (after checking coolant and oil), before saying anything. So, back to my question: what to check when going looking again, and running the engine? ( I've read all old threads but just made me a bit more confused). I hope some of you will jump in on this and give me a few hints. Kind regards, Redfox. ps: yeah, I know, a LOT of work will have to be done on this one, but looking at polished ones for sale, they are more expensive, and seems to be needing the same amount of work, apart from paint polishing Funnyli enough, all dealers say: take as is, we know it's made of gold, but will not service it. So I will have to do that myself Looking forward to that. Another question: can a carburettor Stevens Turbo produced very late 1988 sold very early 1989 run on normal 99 octane unleaded? Or should it have some Castrol valvemaster as well?
