Confirmation that previous MOT failure points (e.g. "rear axle insecure" from the last test) have been permanently fixed would also be recommended. Interior could also do with some recolouring here and there.

The dealer selling this is quite close to where I live, so it's tempting to take a look - but the price is pretty strong for an early car with half leather. The description isn't very detailed either, so a call or viewing would be required to understand any service and restoration history. MOT check shows incorrect mileage, so it's probably had a replacement speedo at some point. Great, thanks Gary 🙂 I admit I've been perplexed why it's been sitting around so long, it does look like a great car! Do you mind me asking when it was thaty serviced it? Good to have the peace of mind that Mark will recheck the car. Apologies to everyone if I've sounded a little cynical from the start, but I've had a couple of unpleasant experiences with independent dealers in the past with sale-on-commission tactics (one of whom I thankfully escaped without dealing with, since they subsequently received an 18 month jail term for fraud) - not helped admittedly by my naivety and good faith that they sought to take advantage when they saw it - so I'm now much more wary of everything and everybody. Thanks Jonathan, this gives me some peace of mind! That's a lovely pair you have there, I'm very jealous!

Indeed, but the advert that has been periodically reposted for at least 6/7 months now hasn't changed. So it hasn't "just" been serviced. "Serviced just before we acquired it/serviced by us when we acquired it" would be more accurate Oh dear - that's a concern. Is there a particular club I could join to search that feedback? Hello, I don't suppose anybody here used to own/has any knowledge of the history of this car for sale at Stocks Sports Cars? https://www.stockssportscars.co.uk/cars-for-sale/1997-lotus-esprit-gt3 It seems to have been advertised for sale for several months now, at least May when I first spotted it. The spec and colour combo is right up my street (I'm not a fan of 'loud' colours or big wings) and the mileage seems reasonable. Looking at the MOT history, it doesn't seem to have been used much since 2016, and the current DVLA record is that the MOT ran out over a month ago and hasn't been renewed! This and the length the ad has been up suggests the "just had a full service" might be artistic licence, plus I'd expect a car in "stunning" condition to be regularly driven and MOT'd at the very least if a dealer genuinely values it and expects it to sell anywhere near asking price. Anyway, I'm interested in calling them up - but don't want to waste either their or my time if there's something anybody knows that should put me off?

I ideally want something that I could practically use as a daily driver (in the context of somebody currently working from home). By all accounts from what I've read, it's best to buy the latest possible subject to condition - which is why I was focusing my attention on S4S and GT3. I'm also not interested in V8s, I get the impression they are too expensive to maintain for what I want.

This is all good info. I really don't have a very good idea of what values are nowadays, I have a maximum budget and just want to make sure I don't get ripped off. There's a GT3 on sale that appeals that appears to have been advertised for a while (I first saw it back in April/May time) at £35k - I figured the reason why it might not have sold is that the price was ambitious, but from what I'm hearing here it might be spot on or even keenly priced.

Well done! Do you mind mentioning how much you paid? I recall seeing this car for sale at two prices, both of which seemed rather rich. I'm looking to buy and S4S or GT3 sometime soon, but it's difficult to gauge what is a reasonable market value at present.
