  1. Either way, engine out?

It would be an engine out for the rod bearings.

But I would really suggest to drop the sump to confirm.

If it is a tappet, then you can keep the engine in.

One will be a lot cheaper to resolve.

Has he removed the sump to confirm the rod bearing failure?

No.  You don't need to remove the engine for the top-end check.

  4. I recall you mentioning somewhere you have or planning to get a sequential 6 speed that bolted up to the un1 bellhousing?

Indeed.  That is still the route, but it will take a while.   My engine will not be built before mid- to late next year.

  5. hey Mike, v8 Camshaft question. I'm reassembling the engine and after a year I may have mixed up the Left side cams.

Mine dont have color markings white, blue, tan, green.   They are stamped B,A,C,D

I want to say that I mixed up B & A and should be A,B,C,D from Left exhaust to right Exhaust?

      Easy one:

      A - LH IN

      B- LH EX

      C- RH IN

      D- RH EX

Good luck with the rebuild and ask if you have any other questions.

      Cheers,

      Mike S

  6. Mike I have a question on the Cobra Alarm.

Last time you taught me how to bypass & to start my Cobra alarm by putting pins at the end of the cobra alarm plug. I was able to start it, my question is -- by leaving the jumper is there a battery drain when the car is off?

My other question, I had  time to check the Alarm fuses under the dash (yellow plugs) and the fuses are not blown. Why my  car won't start? Do you think I need the reset procedure using my emergency touch key?  Do you think my cobra alarm is dead?

    Thank you CHE

Sorry for being so bad in answering.  There should be no drain because of the bypass.  I think that your immobiliser is dead

  7. Mike,

Could you tell me please what was your final HP and TQ of your GT1 replica?

    Thanks

Anything over 700bhp is starting to get CRAZY.  Over 1000bhp is INSANE.

If I had the car back, I would put one of my 500+ engines in it - that would add some drama.  If you've ever driven an Esprit with more than 500bhp, you will know what I mean :-)

That is exactly what I mean.  When I had the car, we had the engine producing 430bhp with 0.8 bar boost - the chargecooling was just to create dependable power, not a big outpuit. After I sold the car, they remapped the M800 and squeezed 485 but made no further enhancement to the engine itself.  The engine has done very low miles  - less than 4000 since the engine refresh.

      Hi John,

The GT1 replica is built around a completely standard engine/internals and fitted with hybrid turbos - last mapping with the Motec yielded 485bhp / 420lb/ft.

The ex-5th gear car engine was built with forged pistons, ported cylinder head, special BE bearings and hybrid turbos. With a custom EFI calibration it made 508bhp / 436lb/ft.

The asking price for the GT1 replica is excessive.  I sold the car in 2009 for 30K€ - he is asking 65K GBP.  It is a lovely car with some really nice features, but not worth 65K !

      Kind regards,

      Mike Sekinger
