  1. Ah the joys of internet forums, for every one positive experience you get one negative. Given the price of them I'm tempted to take a punt, but I might wait until I've drained the coolant and properly inspected the existing hoses before making any decisions.
  2. While I've had some time off over Christmas I've been starting to research and order up some parts to get cracking on some of the many jobs to do on my S4s. One task on the list is replacing some tired looking coolant hoses and on previous cars I've use silicone hoses bit none of the usual suspects seem to do hoses for the Esprit. I've seen some sets from Chinese sellers on ebay but at the price they're selling them at I'm concerned about the quality. Does anyone here have any experience of these hoses on ebay or know of any more established brands that sell sets for the S4s?
  3. Thanks. My pre-purchase research lead me to believe the brakes were far from ideal in general, but at the moment it pulls under hard braking, so I'm going to start with the basics and just get what I have working as well as it can and then I hope to have a good baseline to decide how good/bad the brakes really are and how urgently I'll then have to go about a potential brake conversion relative to all the other jobs that need doing. Certainly sounds like the brake servo is the way to go in the longer term though.
  4. Thanks for the warm welcome all. @Giniw I have already replaced the pipe to the charcoal canister. It too was pretty ropey, but thanks for the info all the same. @ramjet Yes it is Norfolk Mustard. It wasn't my first choice of colour but you can't be too choosey when buying second hand, especially with such a low volume car. That said I agree it it suits the car, it certainly stands out and it's growing on me. Do I take it that means this car is known then? The history that came with it is very patchy so I don't really know a great deal about it.
  5. Well maybe not that new an owner, I've had the car since March this year, but due to other circumstances I've only managed to complete just shy of 300 miles in it this year. I know 😲 The picture flatters it somewhat, the car requires quite a lot of work, but it is a runner and my plan is to treat it as a rolling restoration. Based on the little work I've done on it so far it hasn't been put back together by previous owners/garages all that well; lots of things aren't as they're supposed to be but I'll get it all sorted in the fullness of time. I've wanted an S4s for a long time but wasn't actively looking for one when a friend pointed this particular car out to me and at the price it was being offered I couldn't refuse it after a look around it. I quite enjoy the challenge of bringing a car back to tip-top condition, having done it with several of the other cars in my fleet. Current tasks on the to-do list which I'll no doubt have questions about in due course include: Complete brake overhaul - caliper rebuilds, new discs pads and braided hoses all round Cooling system flush and refill and work out why the ECU isn't turning the fans on Wheel refurb and new tyres Possible fuel tank replacement - the pipe over the rear window was in a right state which I've replaced so I'm hoping that will cure the fuel smell and spare the fuel tanks... for now!
