  1. Well, finally got the box out and it is the rear main seal, didn’t really use the car much so the length of time it took me to get round to it didn’t see it get any worse. I have a new clutch and lightened flywheel to put in as well, although I’ll need to get the flywheel sensor timing marks machined in the new one as I forgot to ask when I bought it and it came without, typical.
  2. Thank you for the messages suggesting folk who may have a part for sale. I have actually stripped the leather and lining from the consul and used a hot air gun to re-shape it back to the original shape, I am now going top have it re-upholstered. All the best, Callum
  3. The bit that runs from the HVAC controls back to below the storage pocket. I have one but time, heat and shrinking leather have warped it beyond repair. Thanks, Wilky
  4. Pulled the wheel off today when I got home. The spigot is 20mm.
  5. Hello all, A friend is machining a set of S4 front wheels for me to 60mm to fit my SE and he has just called to ask the length of the hub spigot. I am not with the car and will not be able to whip the front wheel off to measure it until next week as I am out of town. does anyone happen to know the length of the spigot? This is obviously so he can set up how far in he machines. I hope this makes sense. Any assistance welcomed. cheers Wilky
  6. Lovely Sparky, thank you. I had the majority of what you mention factored, however local knowledge regarding boot floor fastenings which have already raised my eyebrow (Roger Moore fashion) is really good to know. I sourced a case of the correct Castrol Transaxle fluid from France, much to the suppliers amusement, and he did offer me a Renault 25 clutch but I think I will play it safe and get an uprated one, along with a lightened flywheel from a reputable UK based lotus specialist. If, for no other reason than to follow the correct path. I'm more that confident the clutch would work I just don't feel comfortable doing it. Call me mad but there we go.
  7. Have I asked a "Previous" post question?
  8. Hello Everyone, In true "New, old car" fashion I have just managed to get my 1990 SE running properly and it would appear that the rear crank oil seal is leaking. I changed the engine oil, drove about 50 miles and was about to change the gearbox oil and found a small puddle of engine oil on the floor below the little gap between the bell housing and the engine, its definitely engine oil. As I am going to have to remove the gearbox, I may as well do the clutch as well, and might put in a lightened flywheel. can I ask what parts I will need and is there anything else I can replace as a preventative maintenance measure? I am still waiting for a copy of the maintenance notes to arrive but would like to get everything ordered and pull the gearbox over a weekend, hence I ask here. Thanks for your help, Callum
  9. Hello everyone, Ive been lurking here for a couple of weeks waiting in anticipation for my newly purchased 1990 Esprit SE to be delivered, and it arrived on Wednesday so after having fitted a new exhaust and identified a couple of vacuum leaks and the potential need for an IAC valve, all with the help of the forum it is time to introduce myself and my new (to me) lotus. I have owned numerous performance cars and at one time was really in to tuning Subaru's, but life, work and the family all got in the way and I settled for buying cars that were quick out the box, rather than fiddling with them. I decided that I would like an esprit, an S1 was my original choice. My father took me to the pictures in 1977 to see James Bond and ever since I saw the white esprit I wanted one but never thought I would be able to afford it. Fast forward 45 years and I saw a 1990 SE for sale in Las Vegas at a good price. (I am an expat living in Houston Texas) I flew up with my wife and daughter under the pretense that we were "Getting away for a few days" and as they slept in one morning I went viewed the car and agreed a price. Naturally, as one would expect my current wife was not best pleased when she found out but I'm sure she will get over it. I would very much like to change the wheels so if anyone this side of the pond has a set gathering dust please reach out. If they require machining due to hub sizes I can get that done. I would like to do the wheels first as it will directly influence the size of brakes I can fit when I have established a black budget. The Esprit has only done 22k miles and all servicing was done and is current from the previous owner, all the belts, fluids pumps etc etc have all been overhauled so this weekend will be vacuum hose replacement time. The interior could do with some love as well. Thank you for looking and I hope to enjoy the forum and your banter going forward. Kindest regards, Callum (Wilky) 78018BE7-55DB-43D6-974F-E33D3A0224E3.heic CC669026-858E-4E4B-B0E3-AAC8F2C536D9.heic
