  1. Hi, Gang, I understand that a popular reliability upgrade is to add bushings in the aluminum case that the shift rod travels in. It looks like the old bushing is 15mm ID, 17mm OD and 30mm long. If that is correct, does anyone have a source for these bushings? The vendors I've found all have at least 2mm wall thickness, and 19mm OD is pretty much the max as I'd be weakening the boss going larger. I've found acetal thin wall bushings, but not bronze. Does a bushing go in the end cover as well? Thank you!
  2. Hi, Gang, Working on a friends TC, while using a hub puller to remove the carrier from the axle, I pulled out a few HeliCoils. I cleaned up the holes and took it to a welding school where an instructor agreed to fill the 5/16-18 holes so I could put fresh HeliCoils in. He was unable to get either type of aluminum he tried to wet the casting, I don't know what his alloys were. Does anyone know what the hub carrier is made of so we could repair it?
  3. Working on a friends TC that had a dragging brake, we found the RR trailing shoe had debonded with about 0.141" of lining left. And on the LR, there is a crack at pretty much the same place on that shoe. It seems to be near the notch in the shoe, but I can't wrap my head around the shoe flexing there. Has anyone seen this before and does anyone have a guess what caused this?
  4. We just repaired the fan wiring after a motor probably stalled and made a mess. A 15A fuse lasts about 1 1/2 seconds and the 25A seems to be fine.
  5. I've just started working on a friends 79 JPS. We need to get to the brake lights and it really looks like the carpet is glued to the wood panel. Could someone confirm 'yes, that's how it was made' and also offer a hint or three on how to get to the brake lights? His car is incredibly original and we don't want to make a hash of it. Thanks!
