anyone know the torque specs for the pressure plate bolts? my lotus manual does not have a lot on the clutch...
-
since my transmission is still in the car and I only have a 6" wide gap to work through - no room for a slide hammer. I found the tool to use, and luckly Advance Auto has it in the tool loaner program...

flywheel is in perfect shape - lucky that is the pressure plate side...
any tips for pulling the pilot bearing?
-
Thanx! I used the LEW pics to dig in... the car sits with the old clutch and pressure plate out.
the old clutch is bare ....
Now I just have to pull the old pilot bearing out and I'll start reassembling....

I have a new clutch kit from JAE sitting on the bench and a week off next week... so going to tackle it.
any tips? I searched the forums but didn't find any real detail. LEW has a pictoral - > http://www.lotusespritworld.com/EGuides/EModifications/clutch.html
and the manual seems a bit sparse.

many offs on the track - which are all heartstopping... but just the other day.....
I driving my Esprit, a jacked up 4x4 (Texas Style) just simply changed lanes on top of me.....
I was wearing my sandles (like all Austinites) - so one foot quickly on the clutch, one foot hard on the brakes... toe on the clutch caught under the brake... broke in two spots...
my Esprit almost hit their rear tires, their trailer hitch inches from my windscreen.... but other than 10,000 miles off my tires, no damage... to the car.
I have had soooo many mom in SUV talking on their cell phones switch lanes on me - I just the Esprit is just under their mirror angle. I have to watch to not be in their blind spot.

neat event - hosted by the local Lotus, Aston, Bentley Dealer
basically the entire town of Leander becomes a parking lot for 400 cars for half the day!
-
This is the Lotus dealer in Austin - who after years of dealerships coming and going, this one looks like the real deal. They hosted several events already, and are the lead sponsor of the Cars & Coffee event (last Sunday of each month. I went last weekend and my Esprit was parked with their show shows at the center of the event.
There are off to a great start!

I just dumped my Pre and went with a Hero (Android)...
The Pre had a nice interface - but the device itself a little too plastic...
I'm interested in 'must have' apps...
so far I just have the standard TaskKiller, Bubble Level, Compass, Google Sky, ...not much into games on my phone...

I am in a 'unique' situation - my wife and I are Canadians, moved to Austin, TX about 10yrs back. Both kids born since then are of course US. So, my boy wore a US Team jersey at his hockey pratice on Sunday just before the game and then we ended up cheering for different sides all game long!
It was good drama to see the Canada / US plot and to see both women and men teams win gold.
I tried to explain it to my US freinds - a country with only 33 million people (smaller than California) 4 million of them watched the TV show where the Team Canada players were named....
I thought the closing ceremonies were perfect! of course, my US friends don't always get my humor....

Does it have a 'special' gearbox - or is it running a UN1 variant?
Do you have pics of the roll-cage and the under-bracing it connect to?

some Lotus thoughts:
From Lotus Cars Ltd
All Lotus Esprit vehicles have had the Aerodynamics developed in a wind tunnel followed by track & road appraisal and are fully Type Approved. All the Esprit Production vehicles were built to a tested & approved specification.
In simple terms the main visual difference in the production build has been whether the car has had a separate bolted on 'Wing' or an extended Transom. Changing the visual appearance of a vehicle by attaching / removing a bolt on wing is an easy aftermarket exercise. What is not usually appreciated is the change that can be made to the rear downforce by this exercise.
It should be noted that the production vehicles built with a bolt on wing have the short (low) Transom (V8 SE's & Sport 350's) and cars without the bolt on wing have the long (high) Transom (V8 GT's & GT3's). The exercise of bolting on a wing to a car with a long (high) transom does not replicate the original factory built car and the removal of the wing without the addition of the correct Transom is not totally correct. Both will result in a change to the rear downforce, drag and overall balance of the vehicle.
Many wind tunnel test hours and much track time (and lots of

Quickr - Is that your car?
Looks awesome mate! The black wing on black just looks so evil!
Have you got shiny chromey rims too? Would look immense
Yeah - I put the wing on a couple of weekends ago. I took these pick this morning as I walked through the garage - pouring rain.
Should be nice this weekend, I'll take better pics.
the Wing is a GTC (GT2/GT3) legal wing - 13 degree stall. http://www.aprperformance.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=181

yeah - it's my goofy GTC-200 from APR Performance, I still have to add bracing internally from under the lid to frame tubing...
I still have rear wheel arches to add....
