Updating Tomtom

Can anyone help me update my TomTom One? In a nutshell I have one of the original TomTom One's. I have been trying to install new updates through the home site but get a message saying there's not enough space. I did as instructed and deleted a voice leaving just the one. But that's still not enough! I only have the GB maps so don't think there's anything else I can delete.

The TomTom site is not that helpful unfortunately and I'm still waiting for a reply. Should I purchase a larger memory card and reinstall the whole lot? If so what sort of size card? Any help gratefully appreciated.

What size card are you using at the mo Brendan?

Do you just have UK mapping, or Europe as well?

Oh, and does it use SD cards?

Hi James,

I believe it is an SD card but it has no idication of size on it. I only have the GB mapping on it. Any ideas of cost as never bought one before.

Brendan, they're virtually giving the things away these days . You won't need anything bigger than a 512mb card, in which case you're talking under a fiver!

But I'm not necessarily convinced your existing card is too small. As far as I know the latest TT software release isn't significantly larger than previous versions, so it should still fit on the original card. So could be another problem.

Do you have access to a pc equipped with a card reader (needed to copy the TT software from one card to another)?

If so PM me your address and I'll send you one of my spare 512mb SD cards (I'm now using 1 & 2gb cards in my pda/camera) to try.

Unfortunately I don't have a card reader. Is it possible to put a new card in the TomTom and reinstall the files I have backed up on the computer?

Ive got an original TT1 and space really is a problem on these cards......

I tried to download 1 voice....... computer said no...!!!!

Tried to download 'scam'eras...... computer said no....!!!!!

Not enough memory.....

As said bigger cards are really cheap, although if you want Euro maps, U'll need a whopping big card, dont know the size off the top of my head, but I'm sure someone will....

Today I tried to reinstall the tomtom software onto my new card kindly supplied by James. But when I switched it back on again it just jams with the message "please wait". It can then only be switched off again using the reset button. I put the original card back in and it works fine again!. I've tried deleting and reinstalling again but still not working!

Please excuse my ignorance but does the SD card need formatting first? It has been suggested the card speed should be 66x or faster?

I had a similar problem when upgrading to TT6, device kept "hanging" during post install, in desparation I simply left it as someone suggested in may well be busy! They were right, it works just fine now. PS I had to upgrade from 256mb as TT5+ is @350mb.

Brendan, I've got a couple of ideas on this. Will have a bit of a play with Penny's TomTom One unit tonight/tomorrow to see what works/doesn't. Will endeavour to post up a solution a little later in week.

on the subject of the tomtom,

has anyone created a Lotus/dealer specialist POI ?

i tried downloading the one on p'gpsworld, but it downloads as a .csv file not the ov2 files needed (tried the converter- don't work )

if anyone wants a copy, i can email it just drag n drop the file and the .bmp below into the map folder on the tomtom
