The manual steering racks, 88-93 sometimes need to be rebuilt. The start to get loose and the tires will move around on rough pavement, which makes it difficult to keep the car going straight.

Here's how you rebuild the rack.

you should check the tie-rod ends near the wheel hubs for loosness. Also check suspension bushings.

Could also be your dampers not working properly? Or suspension bushes?

I have a 90SE too, and recently had the steering rack (available from Esprit Engineering), the dampers (from Christopher Neils) and the bushes (from R&B) changed to get some control of the car again!

I guess finding parts locally will be a problem to you (I'm offshore so I share your pain to a smaller extent) - but rather than take a chance on finding parts to fit from other vehicles, I buy mail order from the specialists listed on the LEW site.

Also check for play in the lower U/J and for play between the lower and de upper U/J. The upper U/J has a splined shaft that goes into the lower U/J. (U/J is Universal Joint).

I Bought my steeringrack and lower U/J from SJSportscars.
