Mike - any reason why the transom's off? You could put a GT transom on there and ditch the rear wing.. ;-)

Latest update:

The engine rebuild was eventually given to Phil at SWLC, who turned the job around very quickly. The engine now awaits collection.......

Once the engine is back with the car, the final assembly of new turbos and chargecoolers will commence. The plan is to schedule a visit of our Motec Guru Fraser MacKellar, so that he can enable the ECU and configure for twin wideband lambda.

Here are some images of the engine post-rebuild.

Mike Haines is also fabricating an alloy main coolant radiator this time around - I wish that this had been on the original worklist.

Hopefully, I

Latest update:

The engine is now back with Mike Haines and final assembly is underway.

He also opened-up each of the two chargecooler bodies to ensure that no impellor particles were trapped in the cores. These were then ultrasonically cleaned and welded back together. Here are some images:

The new radiator core has been ordered from Pace, so that is expected back within the next 10 days. The size of the core has been maximised for our installation (no a/c).

Now waiting for the new front radiator core to arrive this week, before being able to fabricate the end-tanks and pipes.

Expect another update soon :(

Re. the chargecoolers, these are not the same as the 150 quid Ebay ones. It would have cost about 1K to replace the chargecoolers vs. a couple of hundred to cut open, clean and weld/polish.

When are you and Alan going to let us see some of your chargecooler work?

Mike's chargecooler are not the Chinese copy. Looks like a real Spearco design. Chinese copied the spearco intercooler and dumped it here in the U.S for a penny (Ebay). I saw the copy and its identical. Same thickness and the workmanship looks fine. I think its good for consumers but bad for business. When you imfringe or hijack someones design, you should go to jail.

I did not use the spearco in my chargecooler design. I used two Garrett intercoolers that came from Syclone/Typhoon. Fitting chargecooler will develop lag if not configured properly. The length of the pipes and the size of intercooler is critical. I'm lucky I choose the Garrett size. The response is instantaneous with no lag. Trial and error but got lucky this time.

About 12 months ago, I aquired a pair of charge-cooler bodies off Ebay (Spearco style) as I was considering making kits available. On close comparison, the core was definately inferior in contruction to the Spearco one and the the water channels were smaller.

I am sure there are exceptions to the rule, but I am a firm believer that in essence, you get what you pay for.

Anyone who has been in my car can tell you that I do not suffer from turbo lag. The V8 engine is starting to consume huge volume of air at anything about tick-over and the intercooler pipework doesn

We are getting really close to getting the engine running again now

Fabrication of the new radiator is almost finished and the rest of the parts are all going back together.

The chargecoolers are now rebuilt and polished - some images:

Hi Mike,

do you run the cooling water for the chargecoolers to a seperate rad in the front of the car, or off of the engine system.

alan, i think it does not make anny sense to use the engine-water system ?! The return temperature is just to high to cool down the fresh air inlet temp. !!

Hi Alan,

The chargecooler circuit is a totally separate from the engine coolant circuit. There is a different header tank, pump and radiator.

Exactly what i thought , but the way your coolant pipes go through the bulkhead, looks like they go to the back of the heads.

Hey Mike,

Looks really good. On a side note, I appreciate the pics, gives me insight on what it will be to remove the transmission. Doesn't look to bad with the trunk out. Thanks!!
