Just for the exercise, find out what the potential cost is if you have a frontal crash.

The bonnet hinges have a mechanism in them that fires off and raises the bonnet as part of keeping pedestrians safe if hit. (bonnet gap to engine) I remember reading about that when the GTR first came out and it was very expensive to fix. The exploding hinges are a once use item and have to be replaced. May not be like that everywhere the GTR is sold?

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

The pedestrian protection system is not just a GTR thing, BMWs, Jags and many others have them, its an EU requirement if the engine to bonnet clearance is to small. On the early model GTRs they were (I think) over sensitive, and could be set off by potholes and very minor shunts, not heard any issues on the later ones. I had my first GTR when this was in the news and Nissan looked into it and made some adjustments. They also (allegedly) found a computer error that had made the parts many times the price they were meant to be! (Also you can geta "disabler widget" if that is a concern)

Again if it was my only car I would go with the GTR, as it is not I will be buying an 410/420 Exige (once I can find one that fits the bill) to go with my i-pace
