I wonder how the scoring works on Octordle? You got one point better than me and you didn't get one of the words.

@ramjet I think I posted ages ago, it's a simple calculation of adding all of the used guesses together. So, the lowest(best) possible score would be one correct word every attempt starting with the first word / guess, so that's 1 +2+3  ....+7+8  so I make that 36. The worst possible score but getting all of the words correct would involve not getting any word right for the first 4 guesses then one word right each time thereafter, so 5 + 6 +........+11 +12 that's an extra 4 guesses per word extra 4*8 = extra 32 so that's 68. If you fail to get a word (as I did that time) then you are allocated 13 points for that word (assumption you'd  get it next guess, but that's generous esp if you have multiple words not achieved).

 

So, If I miss a word but you get it on guess 12, for example, I could still have a lower total score if I got the other 7 words in just 2 guesses less overall.

 

The above is based on the maximum permissible guesses per item being 12, it might be 13+ so maths will be erroneous above the the concept applies.
