Hello everyone since I was kid have always wondered the lotus remember seeing him down my local garage getting fixed up my dad's makes work so pleased to welcome all the time but later in life I've got a bit of money I can actually afford one and I'm looking at one of my favourite a lotus Elan S2 it says in the description that is a bad misfire and been repaired it's only done a very small amount of miles seems to repair and that was 3 years ago just wondered if anyone knew this car or had any thoughts on ithttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185463251669?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=6SSo-bSFTnK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=IXaVDCwDSQy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I don't think it's a bargain and whilst the issue with the engine may have been sorted, equally it might not and as such may be the reason why it's up for sale - especially so given it's done only c300 miles since the work was carried out. It also says a second hand head was sourced - you don't know how many miles it may have done so, it might be worth waiting until a better car comes along.

Either way, good luck. They are fantastic little cars and great value for money.

Lotus Elan Central is a good place for M100 help if/when you get one.

Got my S2 at Easter, needs a few things doing as will probably any car that is getting on for 30 years old. Also some parts are very very difficult to get.

Thank you for your reply yes I see some parts are hard to get hold of there was no picture of the engine sorry I asked for some pictures of the engine bay and underneath underneath looks really nice and tidy but the engine it's got an aftermarket air filter on it and it looks like it's got a dump valve on it so that's one thing that just put me right off

As Rambo says, there are a number of very difficult/expensive parts to get hold of e.g. rear light clusters and S2 wheels. If either of these are not quite right don't assume you'll be able to buy replacements..

  • 3 weeks later...

S2's have an  connection to the battery in the engine bay, so a bit less fiddly to fit a small charger.
