VDO Water Temperature Gauge

Hello.  Does anyone know of a company who could prise open and repair a VDO gauge with an intermittent fault where the needle swings over to max sometimes.  I believe there may be an intermittent short circuit inside the unit.  I have fitted a new VDO gauge which works fine but unfortunately has a red needle instead of white and a slightly altered bezel profile.
