Alexander Chen, creative director at Google Creative Lab, revealed that the AI in the video was not responding to voice or video but to text prompts and still images. The AI gets clues from its human helper that are not obvious in the video.

In one section, someone plays a hand game in front of the AI, and it responds: “I know what you’re doing! You’re playing Rock, Paper, Scissors!”

In the blog post, Chen showed that the AI was shown single images of the movements, then all three gestures together, with the prompt: “What do you think I’m doing? Hint: it’s a game.”
