V8 Gearbox Options

Recommended Posts

My 98 V8 has had a new clutch recently but engaging 1st gear is still difficult about 30% of the time. The lotus specialist that did the work and opened up the gearbox says the box is a 'Frankenstein' box with non standard parts and as a result can't do anything more- it's had the GTO upgrade done by a PO. I've had a look on ebay for a replacement but none seem to come up - any ideas where I can source a potential replacement from?

GTO Engineering in the UK should be able to help you with parts.

Would be good if they told you the issue so you know what is worn. The gearbox still works the same way as factory.

Southwest Lotus Centre do V8 gearbox rebuilds, try contacting them. It might be better sourcing another box first and sending that off rather than your GTO conversaion as there will be some very expensive parts in there.

If all else fails I will happily send you my gear box and you can send me yours.  I will cover shipping for both boxes 😁

Not sure I would bother with a shop that thinks an upgraded main shaft on a UN1 is a negative, pretty well known issue, especially for V8s.
