GT3 Exhaust manifold problem?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

can anyone advise me on a problem that was advised on my MOT? the GT3 sounds a bit tickey when running, I was advised that two exhaust manifold studs or bolts were missing. Can this be done with the engine in and is it a DIY job or an expensive dealer repair???

As long as they aren't rusted, it is fairly easy to do with the engine in place. I've done it several times when studs fell out. But nothing is rusted on my 89SE.

I hate to be the spoiler, but,

If it's been blowing, and it sounds like it has, I'd sereously be thinking about replacing the gasket. Unfortunatly, that means taking the manifold off. I hate having to do the same thing twice!

and

if you refit the bolts of the manifold dont forget the little plates

they keep the bolts in place so they can't fall out

the bolts falling out tells me that the plates weren't in situ and that the guy working on your car isn't a lotus specialist

researche is something i do when i don't know what the hell i'm doing

Hi Mike

If you have a look at page 3 of my Thread S3 HC turbo conversion all is revealed. well theres loads of photos of putting the manifold back on & what's needed.

I tend to agree with whats been said. if the gasket has been blowing a while then I doubt you'll get it to reseal. these are once only gaskets. once they've been pressed on then you can not reuse them. & at

The need for speed can be found with a Lotus
