Happy Birthday Laura.

If you have time nip down to the old GP circuit at Riems. Most of it is public roads and the old pits are still standing and have just been repainted as they were in the sixties, great photo op

Thanks for all the advice guys, we took a fair amount of it and visited quite a few of the places recommended.

500 miles of really good driving and the Esprit didn't miss a beat, loved it. We both had a lovely time and getting off the boat with no map and no real plan, just an idea of which direction to head in was fun! Great advice about not using the motorway services, I paid €1.49/l for the first tankful, not funny but listened to you after that!

I'll post up some pics shortly, random hoons on the continent are ace and to be fair, we hardly spotted any Police, I got worried about the amount of French people with broken jaws from them hitting the pavement as we passed, roadworks are very limited and when they are there, they are 50 yds long, not 8 miles like in the UK for 50 yds of work, other drivers are courteous and even let you know when it's safe to overtake them (erm, I guess we overtook in excess of 200 cars in 2 days (!)), everyone is nice and polite and the food in Le Treport was spot on, some of the nicest and freshest seafood I've ever eaten. You are quite right, any prejudices disappear when you get there. I think most people have a sneaking respect for Johnny Frenchman, the way he stands for no rubbish from his leaders etc. The Normandy countryside where we went is what you want England to look like all over, but doesn't.

France is a great place, spent some ski seasons working out in the Alps, made some great friends and had lots of fun..

hoever worst week of the ski season was when the Parisians arrived in town... they did fit the stereotype...

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
