Oil for my S4 Esprit?

I have been offered some Mobil 1 fully synthethic 5w 50 oil.

Would this be wise to put in my 1994 S4 Esprit?

Lotus generally recommend Castrol Edge Sport 10W/60.

SAE 50 should be fine it's just a case of whether the pump likes it being a 5w thickness at cold start but as 5w is about 20 times thicker than the sae 50 it shouldn't be a problem. You can also use 10w-60 but unless you thrash it I would suggest it may not be warranted

I used to run Mobil-1 15W50 until they change the forumulation...now I'm using Castrol 5W50 on my SE with no problems. The good news is that I can use the car at 0 degrees F (lol).

II'm confused by the following statement:

"5w is about 20 times thicker than the sae 50"

Isn't 5W oil 3x *less* thick than a 15W oil...and shouldn't that be better at startup?

At temperature both oils should be the same viscosity.
