Hello everyone.Had my s3 turbo egine rebuilt at kelvedon motors at a cost of

Forged or "racing pistons" as you call them are noisy when cold, but usually when hot they quieten down. They tend to expand a fair bit so they are fitted with larger clearances than a cast piston.

Tappets on a Esprit are normally fairly quiet (but not silent) if the correct clearances have been obtained.

Without actually hearing the noise thats as good as I can do!

How long for the pistons to warm up?

Till the temp gauge reads 90 degrees.

What does it perform like?

(For 13 large Id want it to go like it was strapped to a Saturn 5)

13K isn't just a lot, it's ****kin extortionate

Based on the average working week the mechanic would have to be working on the engine for over 5 WEEKS solidly to get a labour charge of 200 hours.

Now either that's gross incompetence or this is a wind up.....................

They had the car for about 5 months and ithink ive been charged for things twice(stoping and starting)

I just can not work out how someone can spend 200 hours on one engine..........

I have NEVER rebuilt an engine, but I'd stake my life I could do it in less time, even waiting for parts to turn up, which wouldn't count in the labour costs anyway.

That seems like a lot of money. I am in the middle of an engine rebuild, granted I am doing the engine pull/reinstall, I figure it will take a total of about 60 hours to get the car running again. As for money out of pocket, I've spent about US$2000 on parts (including JE Pistons), and I figure another $2500 for labor on the engine rebuild (including honing, decking and some mild head work). Figuring $100/hr for my labor would be $6000. That's a total of $10500 US (which would be about

I own a 1984 turbo esprit and am going to rebuild it. I would like to know what are the standard items that I would need to purchase for a rebuild. I am changing the head, pistons and liners, the rest I am retaining. I would appreciate any advice on this matter.

You will only really know once the engine is stripped.

Pistons, rings and liners would be a good call since everything is open.

A set of bearings, big ends and mains, and a crank grind or polish.

A complete headset. (Head gasket ext.)

A complete bottom set. (Sump gasket, oil seals ext.)

Valves etc you would only know when the head is off.

Having had mine rebuilt very recently I can say that's a fairly comprehensive list of what you will need.

You may well find other things in the process...
