Occasional bogging down / kangaroo at high revs

As discussed before, the Esprit is going well since re-jetted carbs to go with new HC engine - however I have had on about 4 ocassions now a moment when I really floor it at about 5000 rpm, the car bogs down / kanageroos, just stops, if I lift off and go again it's generally fine - any thoughts on why this is? from previous experiences with cars it feels / sounds like fuel starvation? - I have had the carbs completely rebuilt under my ownership, I have stainless tanks, recently new hoses and a fuel pump which looks pretty new (but can't be sure as previous owner liked painting things) - but could it the car not dealing with bigger jets on teh carbs, HC engine and full stainless exhaust? or could it an air leak / electrical issue....?

Sounds like classic starvation because the carburetor pumps aren't working.

Easy enough to check by whipping off the cabs & checking the flow when you open the throttle

Maybe when the carbs were re-jetted for the new HC engine the pump jets weren't changed (if they're different from the LC to HC engines)??

Cheers,

John W

They were not changed - but the carbs themselves are 48s anyway - so not the standard size - HC engines have Tri-jet ones as well - but apparently 48s should be fine (and at all other times it goes like the clappeers) it just occasionally it does when I floor it and other times it doesn't...

Could also be a collection of debris, mostly rust, at the bottom of the fuel tank restricting a good flow of fuel that would be required at high revs.

I had exactly the same problem with one of mine a couple of years ago before we managed to clear the debris. Worked fine until I floored it and the car would cough and splutter.

Check you fuel line filter also.
