Rotor arm replacement Turbo Esprit

My car broke down, and in the end after checking everything it was found to be a faulty rotar arm. It had signs of arching; Might have been a bad lot, but I bought it from a specialist. This was when I was going through everything on my car to get it running smoothly. I kept the old and original Lucas rotor arm, that I cleaned up and bungged in. Good job too. Hey presto, she fired up.

This cost me dearly. I missed several meetings during the Le Mans 24hrs. Esprit stopped in a dodgy area, and I had to get it trailered. Didn't know then how simple it was, and had already killed the battery.Now to stop the likelyhood of this happening again, I want to buy a good hassle free rotor arm.

So what about these whizzy red rotor arms MG owners use. Its the same distributor. Anyone tried the Powermax ? http://www.ebay.co.u...r-/110458804727

I think I'll buy two if they are the preferred option; I've read all about substandard copies with poor insulation properties concerning the plastic. Obviously don't want this.

At one time the plastic was coloured black with carbon, i don't know if it still is, that was allegedly giving issues as it allowed more arcing.

I've not tried those powermax ones but assume they's fit.

also broke down with cracked rotor arm.was told it was probably caused by using cheap plug leads which was causing rotor arm to arc

Okay, I've changed the rotor arm on mine for one of them red ones on e-bay for around £5. Obvious usual 20 minute fiddling as ever to un-clip the dizzy, and then have to find the clips that always fall off, and in the case of my car fall down on the under panel. Nice job to unscrew, cursing Lotus as ever, and saying why did I ever bother, like you do. Nice place to put the dizzy cap. Bottom clip first, always remember that. Did that then went for a run. What a difference. Car seems much much smoother. I would definitely recommend buying one, even just as a spare.

bought one of those red jobies from e bay installed ,(with the same fun) still had rough low rpm so checked the new rotor and cap strangely, found that the rotor had bashed all the posts and damaged the plastic surrounding the posts measured same and was 32 thou longer ??? had to put the old stuff back for now which sight did you get yours please

Don't forget to fit an RPM limiter now you've done away with the 'orrible sprung original rotor arm.....

My '83 had a stock limiter (mounted on the right hand fuel tank).
