First Lotus - Evora S

After owning 6 Alfas, 3 old Porsches and numerous other 'fringe' motors, I have finally bought my first Lotus. A 15000 mile-old Ardent Red Evora S. I had tried an Esprit many years ago, but I was too big - I had also thought about an Elise, but again size was an issue. However, as a RAF bloke with a few mid engined cars behind my belt I felt I needed to own one of Chapman's finest for 'completeness'. So what are my first impressions of the Evora, particularly when compared to the Ferrari 328 it replaced?

Stunning in the flesh from "most" angles - turns as many heads as my old Ferrari did.

More room inside - it feels like it was made for Germans rather than Italians.

Same horrible offset pedals as the Ferrari. It is a left hooker, so also has no dead pedal, unfortunately.

Similar build quality to Ferrari 328. Standing by for incoming on that one....

Jaw dropping handling and ride. Absolutely faultless and thanks to the modern electronics it feels incredibly confidence inspiring. The Ferrari was awesome in the twisties too, but had limits that seemed much less accessible to an average driver like myself and had a much harsher ride over anything other than perfect Tarmac.

Engine sound is disappointing, but that is in comparison to a screaming Ferrari V8.

Nicer switchgear, cabin and seats - Lotus is definitely more comfortable and the seats and steering wheel are faultless.

In short I love it, despite the non functioning cruise control and the strange sounds that come out of the gearbox at low revs. I've been told that both of these are common issues and the cruise, at least, can be fixed. I am expecting to be a bit of a 'beta tester' over the next few months/years, but the alternatives (Audi/Porsche/BMW) just seem to have lost their souls.
