Nice one Alex, the Esprit looks fantastic and a lot of blood, sweat and tears were no doubt shed!

Not sure about the Japanese thingy though! ;)

Must maybe get a V8 meeting set up sometime?

Steve.

 Congratulations.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

I guess that the belt is nowhere to be seen? What make was it? I know on the 4 pot the tensioners "normally" get changed at the same time - could they have let go? I really feel for you. I saw a V8 engine being rebuilt on Friday from afar at GST - looked like a big job. Sincerely wish you all the best - really interested to find out what let go.

Well not really had chance to plug the engine yet but from a brief look it seems its either dropped a valve and locked a cam or its oil starvation on the cam and its heated up and pinched . Going to get it out and inspect it but im guessing ill be doing a check on the oil pump . The belts were from sj . I did the idlers tensioners and belts together idiotic to only do half a job but dont think the problems there the teeth are stripped so something stopped mid turn and the rest well didnt lol . Bit of an arse but you know me wont be stopped there .

People did say it was a shamr my thread stopped so donations please and ill get started ;)

I remember you having a tapping noise (unsure if it was a sticky lifter) do you think the noise could be related to the failure

this was down to me following the 0-30 mobile 1 as its states in the manual after speaking to a specialist i was advised this was way to thin for my engine and instead used 10/60 and the ticking stopped oil was tooooo thin

Yeah steve this is the theory oil pump failure or blocked oil feed caused the cam to lock

also to illiterate cams not starved of oil and locked at all perfect moving freely all oil journels and runs greased nicely and no pick up or pinching on any cam lobe
