Secondary chargecooler rad worth the effort?

Recommended Posts

Would a secondary charge cooler rad give any sort of power gains?

I was thinking in the boot area with two large high flow fans fitted to it?

Like this:

The system would entail:

pre rad - electric pump - secondary aluminium rad with twin 10" high flow fans (and possibly a top air vent fitted in the boot lid) then the Lotus charge cooler.

Is this worth the effort?

no real benefit, unless you are maxing out the current chargecooler rad?

Have you graphed your Manifold Air Temp (MAT) while driving?

I have mine, and the system does a pretty good job of keeping the intake temps pretty low.

Units are Deg C for MAT, and Bar (Freescan) for boost.  Day was 36deg C.

Methanol / water injection, much easier, little plumbing and likely at least as much gain. Or turn the boost pressure up to 12 psi.  :w00t:

Id suggest replacing the front charge cooler rad with a custom built unit that would give far better efficiency. Dont over complicate things...an efficiently working chargecooler will recover very quickly..and its easy to get the system working to its best ability..
