Just a bit of info for anyone who has a simular problem,i pulled up for fuel switched off as usual.paid for fuel .jumped in car turned ignition all the usual idiot lights (at least that is what i assumed) and the engine span but no ignition or (as it turned out) fuel pump running.

 

  After much scratching of head and playing with immobiliser i noticed i had no CEL with ignition on,popped engine cover ,right hand side of boot relay panel and behold a loose relay ,pushed back in and everything fired up,so as i say 'simplest things first' Also may save you a few quid !
