It doesnt look like the spanner you are using will give much leverage. That bolt is going to be fairly tight so using a longer wrench and give it a whack with a hammer.

 

That ac compressor weighs about 14kgm so if you are not using it then take it off and gain efficiency

right bracket done. should be fitting it tomorrow. pics below:-

made the template using a spray can then facing up the distortions. drilled x3 holes put a grinder between the two holes where to begin the slot. then used a good file. bushes fit and will allow some movement

Well new adjuster on. And everything serms fine. The alternator is sitting higher towards the water pipeso the old adjuster must have been collapsing or bowing. No noise but will be taking it for a spin in 30 mins or so

Nice job but as someone mentioned there must have been a reason Lotus used a plastic/nylon adjuster rather than metal. I see from the SJ site that an original one is only £18 so personally I would have purchased one rather than fabricated one

The nylon alternator adjusting strap was introduced to help with vibration. There should not be any twisting of the strap unless there is wear in the upper alternator mounting hole and/or the alternator/auxiliary housing mounting stud that passes through it.

 

It looks like some of the damage is the result of the U shaped clamp plate being missing and allowing the strap to spread apart.
