Our North American-spec '88 has the blanking cap on the header and the pressure cap on the plastic reservoir, just as the scan ^^^ pictures it.

Mike6, I'm wondering if someone could have damaged the sealing surface on your plastic tank so they fitted a pressure cap onto the header to maintain cooing system pressure?  If the header is the same as the G-cars, that would work, as they did not use the overflow reservoir.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been running the header tank with a superglued overflow pipe for a couple of weeks now including in very hot weather and no overheating and minimal coolant loss. I had emptied out the secondary plastic tank before replacing the header and virtually no coolant has accumulated there. So now feeling that the secondary tank and all that pipework is unnecessary so long as you put a pressurised cap on the header.

Just thinking about all that weight gain - more power, less fuel etc etc
